(KIRSCHNER):
"
TODAY, THE UNITED STATES LEADS THE WORLD, IN THE REDUCTION OF CARBON-EMISSIONS--DUE PRIMARILY TO THE INCREASED USE OF AFFORDABLE, ABUNDANT, AND CLEAN NATURAL-GAS, FOR POWER-GENERATION--WHICH HAS REPLACED COAL, AS THE LEADING FUEL FOR GENERATING ELECTRICITY.  CARBON-EMISSIONS IN THAT SECTOR ARE AT THEIR LOWEST POINT IN 25 YEARS.  ACCORDING TO THE E-P-A, THE METHANE LOST ALONG THE WAY--FROM THE WELL, WHERE NATURAL GAS IS PRODUCED--TO THE APPLIANCE IN HOMES AND BUSINESSES, WHERE IT IS CONSUMED--IS MODEST: LESS THAN ONE-POINT-FIVE-PERCENT OF THE TOTAL PRODUCED.  SINCE NATURAL GAS IS MOSTLY METHANE, THE NATURAL-GAS INDUSTRY HAS BOTH AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND AN ECONOMIC INTEREST IN MINIMIZING METHANE-LOSSES; IT'S JUST COMMON SENSE THAT THE INDUSTRY IS LEADING THE WAY TO SAFELY CAPTURE AND RECOVER METHANE.  IN FACT, DUE TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY, EFFECTIVE REGULATIONS, AND THE INDUSTRY'S OWN ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS, METHANE-EMISSIONS FROM WELLS WITH HYDRAULIC FRACTURING FELL BY NEARLY 90-PERCENT, BETWEEN 2012 AND 2015--ACCORDING TO THE E-P-A.  THE GENERAL CONSENSUS AMONG ENERGY-EXPERTS, ECONOMISTS, AND GOVERNMENT-AGENCIES IS THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO NEED ENERGY, FROM ALL SOURCES--INCLUDING NATURAL GAS--FOR DECADES TO COME.  ACCORDING TO THE E-I-A, EVEN UNDER OPTIMISTIC SCENARIOS FOR RENEWABLE-ENERGY GROWTH, NATURAL GAS WILL STILL SUPPLY ONE-THIRD OF U-S ENERGY-NEEDS, BY 2050.  AMERICAN FAMILIES AND JOBS RELY ON PLENTIFUL, CLEAN, AND AFFORDABLE ENERGY, EACH DAY.  THE FACT IS, NATURAL GAS DELIVERS ALL THREE QUALITIES, TODAY--AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO, INTO THE FUTURE."
