(OPEN):
WITH CONGRESS DEBATING LEGISLATION THAT COULD DRASTICALLY OVERHAUL THE U-S POSTAL SERVICE, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS PRESIDENT, FREDRIC ROLANDO, SAYS SUCH A SHAKEUP IS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY--AND COUNTERPRODUCTIVE...

(ROLANDO):
"THE POSTAL SERVICE ISN'T BROKE.  NOR HAS IT BEEN BUDGETED A DIME OF TAXPAYER-MONEY IN 30 YEARS.  OVER THE PAST FOUR FISCAL-YEARS, IT HAS NETTED 611-MILLION DOLLARS IN PROFIT--DESPITE THE RECESSION.  IN ADDITION, IT HAS TENS-OF-BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF EARNED-REVENUES, IN SURPLUS-FUNDS.  YET, SOME IN CONGRESS WANT TO DISMANTLE THE POSTAL SERVICE--WHICH WOULD HARM BOTH THE PUBLIC AND THE ECONOMY, AND ISN'T NECESSARY.  LAWMAKERS FROM BOTH PARTIES--IN BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS--NEED TO IGNORE THOSE IRRESPONSIBLE-VOICES.  THEY SHOULD, INSTEAD, ACT IN A COMMONSENSE-MANNER--BY GIVING THE POSTAL SERVICE ACCESS TO ITS OWN FUNDS.
