(OPEN):
OVER HALF OF UTAH'S CAREGIVERS, AGE-45 OR OLDER, HAVE WORKED EITHER FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME, WHILE CAREGIVING.  AND, MORE THAN A FOURTH HAVE TAKEN A LEAVE-OF-ABSENCE, TO PROVIDE CARE.  THAT'S ACCORDING TO A NEW SURVEY FROM "A-A-R-P UTAH"ALAN ORMSBY IS THE ORGANIZATION'S STATE-DIRECTOR...

(ORMSBY):
"
UTAH HAS A HUGE, UNPAID WORKFORCE, IN THE FORM OF FAMILY-CAREGIVERS.  THROUGH THEIR SERVICE, 382-THOUSAND UTAHNS PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED FOUR-POINT-TWO-BILLION DOLLARS, IN ECONOMIC-VALUE, EVERY YEAR.  WE FOUND THAT OVER 80-PERCENT OF OUR SURVEY'S RESPONDENTS SUPPORT MEASURES TO PROVIDE SOME TYPE OF LEAVE, FOR CAREGIVING--WHILE EVEN MORE SUPPORT AN INCOME-TAX CREDIT, FOR UNPAID CAREGIVERS.  UTAH'S CAREGIVERS CLEARLY NEED MORE SUPPORT--AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO CARE FOR THEIR LOVED-ONES, IN A MANNER THAT'S EFFICIENT, COST-EFFECTIVE, AND WITHOUT UNDUE STRESS.  WE HOPE THAT OUR SURVEY UNDERSCORES THE NEED FOR THE STATE TO HELP THESE UNSUNG HEROES--SO THAT PEOPLE WHO NEED CARE CAN STAY AT HOME, FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE."
