"A-A-R-P UTAH" IS URGING THE STATE'S MEMBERS-OF-CONGRESS TO TAKE ACTION, AGAINST THE RISING COSTS OF PRESCRIPTION-DRUGS.
THE GROUP'S DANNY HARRIS EXPLAINS...
(HARRIS):
"AMERICANS
SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY THE HIGHEST PRICES IN THE WORLD, FOR THE MEDICINES THAT THEY NEED.
THAT'S WHY CONGRESS SHOULD PASS LEGISLATION TO HELP LOWER PRESCRIPTION-DRUG
PRICES--NOW. THIS INCLUDES ALLOWING MEDICARE TO USE ITS ENORMOUS BUYING-POWER, TO NEGOTIATE LOWER PRICES WITH
DRUG-COMPANIES--WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT IT'S CURRENTLY PROHIBITED FROM DOING.
CONGRESS SHOULD ALSO HELP SENIORS WITH HIGH DRUG-COSTS, BY CAPPING THEIR OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES.
WE'RE ALSO CALLING FOR A BAN ON SO-CALLED 'PAY-FOR-DELAY DEALS'--IN WHICH COMPANIES THAT MAKE BRAND-NAME DRUGS PAY GENERIC-DRUG COMPANIES NOT TO PRODUCE A COMPETING PRODUCT.
MEDICATIONS DON'T WORK IF PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD THEM--AND CONGRESS NEEDS TO STOP LETTING DRUG-COMPANIES PRICE-GOUGE
UTAH'S SENIORS AND TAXPAYERS."
