ON WEDNESDAY [APRIL 10TH], "A-A-R-P
PENNSYLVANIA" IS HOLDING "LOBBY DAY"-ACTIVITIES, AT THE CAPITOL.
AND, THE GROUP'S STATE-DIRECTOR, BILL JOHNSTON-WALSH, DESCRIBES SOME OF ITS LEGISLATIVE
PRIORITIES...
(JOHNSTON-WALSH):
"A FEW STATES ALREADY CAP WHAT MEDICAID PAYS FOR SOME HIGH-PRICED
DRUGS--WHILE OTHERS REQUIRE DRUG-MAKERS TO REPORT THE REASONS BEHIND DRAMATIC PRICE-INCREASES.
WE URGE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO FOLLOW SUIT: LEGISLATORS SHOULD HELP PENNSYLVANIANS WHO FACE HIGH DRUG-COSTS, BY CAPPING THEIR OUT-OF-POCKET
EXPENSES--AND SHOULD ENACT LAWS THAT PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY, WITH REGARDS TO PRICE-INCREASES.
'A-A-R-P PENNSYLVANIA' SUPPORTS A PACKAGE OF BILLS THAT WOULD HELP MAKE PRESCRIPTION-DRUGS MORE AFFORDABLE FOR PENNSYLVANIANS; AMONG THOSE ARE THREE BILLS THAT WOULD PROVIDE CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR
'PACE' AND 'PACE-NET'--TWO PHARMACEUTICAL-ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT MORE THAN 260-THOUSAND PENNSYLVANIANS.
IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF PRESCRIPTION-DRUG AFFORDABILITY;
IT'S UNFAIR THAT AMERICANS PAY THE HIGHEST PRESCRIPTION-DRUG PRICES IN THE
WORLD--AND THAT MANY HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN FILLING THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS AND BUYING FOOD, BECAUSE THEY
CAN'T AFFORD BOTH."
