(OPEN):
WITH THE "20-20 CENSUS" APPROACHING, "A-A-R-P NEW MEXICO" SAYS THAT IT'S ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF THE STATE'S RESIDENTS TO BE COUNTED.  THE GROUP'S BETH VELASQUEZ EXPLAINS...

(VELASQUEZ):
"
THE 'U-S CENSUS' HELPS DETERMINE EACH STATE'S REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS--NOT TO MENTION HOW FUNDS ARE SPENT FOR MORE THAN 50 LARGE PROGRAMS.  THIS REPRESENTS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, EACH YEAR, FOR NEW MEXICANS' HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION, AND TRANSPORTATION.  SO, IT'S VITAL THAT OUR STATE RECEIVES AN ACCURATE COUNT.  ADDITIONALLY, NEW MEXICO IS ONE OF THE HARDEST STATES TO COUNT ACCURATELY.  THAT'S WHY THE 'CENSUS BUREAU' HAS BEEN HIRING FOR HUNDREDS-OF-THOUSANDS OF TEMPORARY JOBS, NATIONWIDE.  MANY OF THESE WORKERS WILL GO DOOR-TO-DOOR, TO HELP PEOPLE FILL OUT CENSUS-FORMS; HAVING BILINGUAL WORKERS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT.  BY WORKING FOR THE 'CENSUS BUREAU', YOU CAN HELP ENSURE THAT ALL AMERICANS--INCLUDING ALL NEW MEXICANS--ARE COUNTED."
