(OPEN):
LAST NOVEMBER, GOVERNOR CHRISTIE SIGNED INTO LAW THE
"'CAREGIVER ADVISE, RECORD, ENABLE'--OR 'CARE'--ACT".
AND, NOW, IT HAS OFFICIALLY TAKEN EFFECT. A-A-R-P'S NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT OF STATE-ADVOCACY AND
-STRATEGY--ELAINE RYAN--URGES NEIGHBORING STATES TO FOLLOW NEW
JERSEY'S LEAD...
(RYAN):
"WITH THE 'CARE
ACT', NEW JERSEY HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT: NOT ONLY WAS IT AMONG THE VERY FIRST STATES TO APPROVE THE ACT,
IT'S ALSO AMONG THE VERY FIRST STATES WHERE THE LAW HAS TAKEN EFFECT. THE
'CARE ACT' WILL SUPPORT NEW JERSEY'S FAMILY-CAREGIVERS--BOTH AS THEIR LOVED-ONES GO INTO THE HOSPITAL, AND AS THEY TRANSITION HOME.
THAT'S BECAUSE CAREGIVING OFTEN INVOLVES MORE THAN JUST HOUSEHOLD-CHORES AND RIDES TO THE DOCTOR:
MANY TIMES, FAMILY-CAREGIVERS ARE ASKED TO PERFORM MEDICAL- AND NURSING-TASKS THAT QUICKLY CAN BECOME PART OF A DAILY ROUTINE.
OTHER STATES ARE FOLLOWING NEW JERSEY'S LEAD--AND WE URGE ITS NEIGHBORS TO BE AMONG THEM."
