(OPEN):
ON WEDNESDAY [DECEMBER
17TH], "A-A-R-P NEW JERSEY" WILL DELIVER PETITIONS FROM THOUSANDS OF
"JERSEY CENTRAL POWER-AND-LIGHT"-CUSTOMERS THAT URGE THE
"BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES" TO DECIDE THE
COMPANY'S LONG-PENDING RATE-CASE--AND ENSURE THAT ITS RATES ARE REASONABLE AND FAIR.
EVELYN LIEBMAN IS THE ORGANIZATION'S ASSOCIATE STATE-DIRECTOR FOR
ADVOCACY...
(LIEBMAN):
"IT'S THREE YEARS SINCE THE
'DIVISION OF RATE-COUNSEL' PETITIONED THE BOARD TO REQUIRE
'J-C-P-AND-L' TO OPEN ITS BOOKS--BASED ON EVIDENCE THAT THE COMPANY IS OVEREARNING, AND THUS OVERCHARGING ITS
MORE-THAN-ONE-MILLION CUSTOMERS. THE BOARD NOW HAS EXTENSIVE EVIDENCE THAT THE COMPANY HAS INDEED OVEREARNED, BY MORE THAN
200-MILLION DOLLARS--ALL ON THE BACKS OF ITS CUSTOMERS. HOWEVER, THE BOARD STILL
HASN'T ACTED. WE'VE HEARD, FROM THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS, THAT ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH--AND IT'S TIME FOR THEIR VOICES TO BE HEARD. THAT'S WHY WE'RE DELIVERING THEIR PETITIONS TO THE
BOARD--DEMANDING LONG-OVERDUE ACTION."
