(OPEN):
A SURVEY, LAST YEAR, FOUND THAT 85-PERCENT OF A-A-R-P'S
MEMBERS WANT TO STAY IN THEIR CURRENT HOME, FOR AS LONG AS THEY CHOOSE.
HOWEVER, FEW OF THEM DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE FOR THE CHANGES THAT MAY BE
NEEDED TO MAKE THEIR HOME AGE-FRIENDLY AND SAFE. THAT'S WHY
A-A-R-P MISSOURI IS HELPING EDUCATE CONSUMERS, THROUGH ITS
"HOME FIT"-PROGRAM. STATE-DIRECTOR, CRAIG EICHELMAN
["IKE-EL-MAN"], HAS MORE...
(EICHELMAN):
"WE DEVELOPED 'HOME FIT' BECAUSE OUR MEMBERS TOLD US THAT THEY
WANT TO REMAIN IN THEIR OWN HOME, AS THEY AGE--WITH INDEPENDENCE AND
DIGNITY--FOR AS LONG AS THEY CHOOSE. OUR MEMBERS DON'T WANT TO
HAVE TO SELL THEIR HOME, OR BUILD A HOME THAT'S MORE ACCESSIBLE; NOR DO
THEY WANT TO MOVE TO AN INDEPENDENT-LIVING FACILITY--MUCH LESS, A
NURSING-HOME. SO, 'HOME FIT' ADDRESSES THE THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO,
TO MODIFY YOUR HOME TO BE MORE ACCESSIBLE AND SAFE--WHICH IS A GREAT
INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE, AND YOUR QUALITY-OF-LIFE."
(CLOSE):
THE PROGRAM INCLUDES BOTH A FREE PUBLICATION AND A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS
THAT WILL BE HELD THROUGHOUT MISSOURI, THIS FALL. FOR MORE
INFORMATION ON "HOME FIT", VISIT
