(OPEN):
AT ANY GIVEN TIME, OVER
ONE-AND-A-QUARTER-MILLION MISSOURIANS SERVE AS FAMILY-CAREGIVERS.
AND, EACH YEAR, THEY PROVIDE UNPAID CARE THAT'S VALUED AT ALMOST NINE-BILLION DOLLARS.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO "A-A-R-P MISSOURI"--WHICH IS INVOLVED IN A RECENTLY LAUNCHED, NATIONAL CAMPAIGN CALLED,
"I HEART CAREGIVERS". CRAIG EICHELMAN IS THE
ORGANIZATION'S STATE-DIRECTOR...
(EICHELMAN):
"THE VAST MAJORITY OF OLDER MISSOURIANS WANT TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY, AT HOME, AS THEY AGE.
AND, FAMILY-CAREGIVERS ARE THE ONES WHO PROVIDE THE BULK OF THAT ASSISTANCE.
IN FACT, MANY FAMILY-CAREGIVERS PERFORM MEDICAL- OR NURSING-TASKS FOR THEIR
LOVED-ONES--EVEN THOUGH MOST RECEIVE LITTLE OR NO TRAINING FOR THESE DUTIES.
WE AIM TO RECOGNIZE THE HUNDREDS-OF-THOUSANDS OF
FAMILY-CAREGIVERS--THROUGHOUT MISSOURI--WHO GIVE THEIR HEARTS, IN ORDER TO HELP OLDER LOVED-ONES REMAIN AT HOME.
AND, OUR GOAL IS TO RECOGNIZE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS--AND THEIR DEDICATION."
(CLOSE):
EICHELMAN URGES MISSOURI'S FAMILY-CAREGIVERS TO SHARE THEIR
STORIES--AT "A-A-R-P"-DOT-ORG-SLASH-"I-HEART-CAREGIVERS".
